Hello there! My sweet blog friend Lisa and I have decided to do the Make it Monday challenge together. I have been seeing this bokeh look popping up all over blog land. I saw a card a while back that Betsy from the PTI design team had done showing how to do this effect on a card. I loved it so much I had to give it a try. I used the different sized solid circles in Beautiful Blooms II to stamp my background.
Let me just tell you how much of a pain in the butt these butterflies were. I die cut these things about 4 to 5 times trying different looks until I settled on these. I die cut the butterflies, embossed with white embossing powder and then added another layered butterfly in vellum. I originally embossed on the vellum, but that didn't work out so well. When I tried to slightly curve the wings, the embossing broke into pieces and looked awful. I am now wondering if they would have looked better if I embossed them in black instead of white. Sigh
Cardstock: PTI Sweet Blush, Aqua Mist
Ink: Tim Holtz Wild Honey, Tumbled Glass, Spun Sugar
I played along in a couple challenges:
The Friday Mashup challenge this week is POLKA DOTS
Make sure to stop by and see what Lisa Henke has created.
Thanks so much for stopping by,
Heather

Absolutely beautiful Heather! Yes, sounds like you put a lot of time & effort into it, and it was worth it...so, so pretty! I love the white embossing, and so glad you went that route as it keeps the look very soft and subtle which is nice.

pretty card - love the stamped background.
The butterflies are lovely in white. Not sure that black would be soft enough with the pastel background, which is gorgeous by the way!

I LOVE the butterflies and the effect you achieved for those little lovelies! Your card is so soft and pretty with amazing detail...well done!
Heather this is a beautiful card. The different size dots and placement of the butterflies give it the coolest effect of the butterflies floating thru prisms of light, I really like it!

I think the butterflies look beautiful just as they are. Very soft and dreamy. They are what first made me fall in love with this card. Well, that and the polka dots. Fabulous!

Just came from Cupcake Insp and your wonderful Butterfly with bokeh circle background made the Top 5. Like the white embossing powder look w/ vellum over. Pinning your card to my Pinterest board. What butterfly punch did you use?
